Shantou University (STU), founded in 1981 with the approval of the State Council, is a key comprehensive university under the "211 Project" in Guangdong Province. It is located in the northwestern area of Shantou, a seaside city, with its campus covering a total area of 2,087.40 mu and a total floor space comprising 445,400 sq.m.
Since its inception, Shantou University has received a generous support from the distinguished philanthropist and international entrepreneur, Mr. Li Ka-shing. The Li Ka Shing Foundation has committed and donated a total of HK$5.4 billion to support Shantou University (including the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business), of which HK$4.2 billion has already been committed and donated as of 2012. STU now has one National Key Discipline, 2 post-doctoral programs, 1 first-level Ph.D. degree program,25 second-level Ph.D. degree programs, 10 first-level master’s degree programs, 84 second-level master’s degree programs, 6 professional Master's Degree programs,1 Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education, 3 provincial key laboratories, 2 key laboratories of Guangdong Educational Department, 2 Ministry of Education Pilot Sites for Innovative Talent, 6 Ministry of Education First-rate Specialties, and 4 Guangdong Provincial Key Programs. The seven-year program Clinical Medicine is also offered.
A modern digital library is available at the University. Medical College has 5 affiliated hospitals with 3,294 hospital beds. The First Affiliated Hospital is awarded “National Top 100 Hospital” and graded as “Upper First-class Hospital”, providing good opportunities of internship for medical students.

Internship and Career
Medical College of Shantou University has five affiliated hospitals in Shantou, with over 3,000 dedicated staff members and professional healthcare workers to take care of our patients, and a total number of around 2,200 hospital beds. In addition, it has three associated teaching hospitals across Guangdong province, including the largest hospital in southern China, and an aggregate number of approximately 4,500 hospital beds. There are another 10 teaching hospitals in the region where our students participate in clinical training on a continuous basis, providing for some 8,500 additional hospital beds.During years 3 and 4, students are expected to spend several months abroad in our collaborating medical schools to take clinical clerkships and electives. At this time, our collaborating medical schools are UTMB, Drexel University Medical School and University of Rochester Medical School in USA; Melbourne University Medical School in Australia; University of Manitoba Medical School in Canada and Hong Kong University Medical School. In addition, students will fulfill qualification to take the necessary examinations that are required for practice of medicine in USA and Canada, e.g. USMLE and Board examinations.

On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by the university, if they meet the degree regulations of the university. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). The degree will be accredited by USA, Canada, Australia, India, etc.

Applicants should have a foreign nationality and a valid passport. Chinese immigrants should have been granted the foreign nationality for at least four years and have actually resided in the foreign country for at least two years in the past four years.
Applicants should at least have graduated from an accredited high school. Graduates with reasonable ACT (American College Testing) or SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scores or equivalent college entrance examinations will be preferred.
Applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to have a high level of competency in English.
Applicants should be in good health and have a clean criminal record.
Literacy of Chinese will be helpful for your living and study in China.
Applicants should have successfully completed an accredited 4-year undergraduate university education (equivalent to the US or Canadian system) with better than a 3.0 grade point average that is based on a 4-point scale.
In the undergraduate education, the following courses should have been taken:
Beginning and Advanced English (6 credit hours, according to the US system)
General biology I and II (6 credit hours) and Cell biology (3 credit hours), with formal laboratory work
General chemistry I and II (6 credit hours), organic chemistry (3 credit hours) and analytical chemistry (3 credit hours), with formal laboratory work
General physics (3 credit hours), with formal laboratory work
Calculus I (3 credit hours) and statistics (3 credit hours)
Proficiency in the Chinese language (oral and written) is not a requirement but can be helpful.
How to Apply
CUCAS provides two kinds of application methods for international candidates to study English medium MBBS programs at China's universities. They can choose the quick and convenient online application system or the traditional offline application route-Apply via Email.
Online Application Procedures
To complete the online application process, you need to follow the four main sections below:
1. Click 'Apply Now' button on this page and login, if didn't have the account, register first.
2. Fill out the online application form with real and correct informaiton, including personal information, education background, language proficiency, etc.

3. Upload the required application materials
Please upload photocopies of required application materials according to the university's admissions criteria.
All the materials should be MS-Word (.doc), Adobe PDF (.pdf) documents, image files (.gif, .jpg), or compression files (.rar, .zip). Each file cannot exceed 8 MB (megabytes)
4. Make payment
CUCAS offers five types of payment methods. Please carefully select your preferred payment method and to make the payment.
Students who choose Western Union or Bank transfer as their payment method need to upload the payment receipt after you wire the money at the post office or bank.
5. Submit application
Please submit your application once the application fee is confirmed by CUCAS. To submit your application, please access My CUCAS-> My Applications by logging in CUCAS, click 'Continue' at 'Application Status' column, and go to the 'Submit Application' section. You will see a big 'Submit' button. Click the button and your application will be sent directly to the university.
Once you've submitted your application, please wait 2-4 weeks for the university to process your application. Once the university has made a decision, CUCAS will notify you by email. You can also track your application status by logging into your CUCAS account.
Offline Application Procedures
The steps for 'Apply via Email' are as follows:
1. Choose a MBBS program；
2. Click “Apply via Email” to download the fillable application form and documents;
3. Open forms in MS Word and fill in required information electronically, please make sure the information is accurate and correct to receive your JW 202 form;
4. Send us the completed form and other required application materials;
5. Pay the Application Fee and CUCAS Processing Fee, keep the receipt;
6. Send us the copy of receipt, and the school will process your application once receiving your bank receipt;
7. Check your application process via email periodically, and track with your admission status;
8. Wait for your admission notice from CUCAS within 5 workdays, and the JW 202 form will send to you in 2-6 weeks;
