According to Dr Asim Hussain, President Asif Ali Zardari's personal physician, who also heads the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC), says Pakistani medical graduates from China would have to pass the National Equivalence Board (NEB) examination to get permission for practice in Pakistan.
Students who have the qualification to take part in NEB test should obtain a MBBS degree from one of the recognized universities by MOE (China Ministry of Education). Recently there are lots of Pakistan students have the questions like "Does this university recognized by PMDC?" and etc., frankly speaking, PMDC has only approved seven Chinese medical universities for medicine studies for Pakistani students. Graduates from these universities will no more be required to pass any additional examination to get practice license in Pakistan. They included Peking Union Medical College, Beijing Medical University, Shanghai Medical University, Shanghai Second Medical University, School of Stomatology in Shanghai Second Medical University, School of Medicine in Xi'an Jiaotong University and Xinjiang Medical University. However, almost all these programs are taught in Chinese, not in English. It requires every student have the strong Chinese ability if they apply into these schools. From the perspective of students, they need to practice medicine mostly in English when they back to Pakistan, so why not choose an English medium MBBS program which has the qualification to take the NEB test.
There are dozens of best medical universities which offer seats for English medium MBBS study with affordable tuition and living cost, such as Dalian Medical University and Zhengzhou University. Dalian Medical University ranks first among 30 such institutions, which are authorized to enroll foreign students for MBBS course in English by the Chinese Education Ministry. Currently, nearly 400 Pakistani students are doing MBBS in this university. While, Zhengzhou University houses more than 100 Pakistani students with some 400 students already graduated.
An increasing number of Pakistani students are getting enlisted in the Chinese universities. Currently, there are more than 5,000 Pakistani students in various Chinese universities. President Asif Ali Zardari wants this number to cross 10,000.
