Dalian's spring begins in late March or early April when the warm southeast ocean winds bring the temperatures up. You need to wear jackets, sweaters, shirts and jeans to protect yourself from the last of the winter's cold.

Summer is hot and humid from June to August, so you should take cool clothes and sandals. Like a bright pearl on the sea, Dalian attracts both domestic and overseas tourists to enjoy their vacation at the beach. Bring T-shirts, shorts, skirts, sandals, sunglasses, hats and suntan oil with you. The summer is also the rainy period in Dalian, however, most rain falls at night. You will still need to take an umbrella or rainwear with you in the evenings.

Autumn comes in late September. It is also a very pleasant season. The temperature is around 18°C. During the daytime, most people wear long-sleeved but lightweight clothing, and in the evening, most people wear a jacket, thin sweater and jeans. It is the perfect time for fishing as fall is the migrating season for fish.

From late November, winter arrives. The cold north winds become stronger and dominate Dalian city until the following February. January is the coldest month and you need to wear an overcoat, sweater, jeans, gloves and warm shoes. However if you are a swimming enthusiast, the Winter Swimming Festival attracts thousands of swimmers from around the globe who swim in the icy cold sea.
